Have you ever taken a piece of paper and scribbled all over it just to get your frustration out? Believe it or not, that's a form of art and healing! Tranformative art is art-making that focuses on the PROCESS, not the product.
You should know that I'm not a trained visual artist. I used to joke that I couldn't draw to save my life. However, I know from experience that making art can change one's life for the better. I went through a lot of personal trauma and loss in a short period of time. During that painful and disorienting time, I was blessed to be getting an MA in Transformative Art. We use the process of making art, the creative process as a way to gain insight on our lives and to create a sense of wellbeing and integration.
I am honored to be able to share my education and my own experiences with transformative art-making with folks who are trying to find a way to make sense of difficult life experiences, to create the space to experience, experiment, and heal. Much research has been conducted on the connection between the artistic process and healing. I can point you to that research and to resources where you can read more about what happens in us when we allow ourselves the opportunity to step into this process-focused form of healing and enhanced wellbeing.
